Today's Devotional

Thank You, Jesus, for the Power of the Cross.

The revelation of the New Testament to us is that Father God had a salvation plan for all humanity. 

He sent His only Begotten Son, Jesus Christ, to face death for us, which entered the world with the envy of the devil, and He abolished it with the power of His Holy Blood on the cross. 

We read in the Epistle to the Hebrews, chapter two, verses fourteen and fifteen, “Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He Himself likewise shared in the same, that through death He might destroy him who had the power of death, that is, the devil, and release those who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.” 

Jesus cast the devil down and set us free from his bondage of sin and death. 

This is why Jesus went to the cross, not to die instead of us to save us from God’s wrath because we are sinners and deserve death, but to disarm the devil’s power over us, to triumph over him, and set us free.

We read in the Epistle to the Colossians, chapter two, verse fifteen, “He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross.

Having disarmed principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.” 

So Jesus saved us from our enemy and his bondages of sin that humiliated us. 

Before Jesus’ salvation we were not able to resist the devil’s temptations, but now having the grace of the indwelling of Jesus in us, and the gift of the new nature, we have the ability to say NO to all the temptations of sin. 

We read in the first Epistle to the Corinthians, chapter fifteen, verses fifty- four to fifty-seven “when this corruptible has put on incorruption, and this mortal has put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written: “Death is swallowed up in victory.” 

“O Death, where is your sting? 

O Hades, where is your victory?” 

The sting of death is sin, and the strength of sin is the law. 

But thanks be to God, who gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.”
