The Power of Daily Quiet Time with God

“And when He had sent the multitudes away, He went up on the mountain by Himself to pray. Now when evening came, He was alone there.” (Mathew 14:23)

Having a quiet time with Father God everyday is something very essential for every Christian.

We need our daily fuel in order to continue our lives in this earth.

God is our strength and the source of life and light for us.

Jesus Himself, the Son Of God, showed us and gave us the example, while He was on our earth, of how to drink daily from the source of life.

He is our greatest example who often withdrew into the wilderness and prayed.

Throughout the Gospels, we find Him seeking time alone for prayer.

We must walk on His steps and have quiet time with our Heavenly Father on a daily basis, and be alone and communicate with Him.

We must have fellowship with our creator.

This is how we cultivate a relationship by spending time with Him and sharing our needs, hopes, requests, worries, and anxieties.

Like all communication, this relationship has two parts: speaking and listening.

We speak to God through prayer, and He speaks to us.

But how does God speak?

He speaks through His Word in the Gospel and also through the Holy Spirit that dwells in us.

Sometimes He speaks to us through sermons, songs, or devotionals.

When we speak to Him, we should wait to recognize His voice and listen to what He has to say.

In other words, we have to get quiet so we can hear.

Since communication with God is a two-way path, we should give Him equal time to speak by waiting in silence, away from everything and anyone.

We must find a quiet time and place so that we can soak into the Spirit which will reveal and point out any sin that we have not repented of which can be an obstacle to hearing the voice of the Lord and His responding to our prayers.

We need these moments of quiet and stillness before God to prepare our hearts and to seek His Will for the day ahead.

St. Paul reassures this practice by encouraging the churches to pray to God and pray for each other.

In his Epistle to the Philippians, chapter four, verses six and seven, he said, “Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.”

Amen.
