Let Us Humble Ourselves & Receive Jesus’ Power Over Evil (1Peter 5:6-7)

“Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” (1Peter 5:6-7)

Father God has send His Son, Jesus Christ, to our world to save us from our enemy the devil. 

He knows his wickedness and his envy to us. 

Jesus is not distant or annoyed by our struggles. 

He cares about our pain and walks with us through it, and that is why He came to save us. 

He confronted the devil with all his evil spirits on the cross for our sake. 

He defeated them and gave us His powerful name and authority to overcome him and all his temptations and trials.

St. Paul in his epistle to the Hebrews, chapter four, said, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to empathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are yet he did not sin. 

Let us then approach God’s throne of grace with confidence, so that we may receive mercy and find grace to help us in our time of need.” 

These verses reveal to us that Jesus empathizes with us all as we struggle with human weaknesses. 

Because of that, we can receive Jesus’ power in the Holy Spirit and rebuke the evil spirits and resist them and they will flee. 

We need to humble ourselves to receive Him in us. 

We need to ask Him in prayer for help with confidence that He will give us what we need.

We don’t have to hide how we feel from Him. 

He already knows and loves us anyway, so He meets us exactly where we are. 

Let us all get united with Jesus in the Holy Spirit and abide in Him by obeying His words in the Gospel and have the privilege of receiving His power and authority over all the evil spirits and the lustful temptations and desires of this corrupted world we are living in. 

Amen.
