Submit To One Another In Christ (Ephesians 5:21-23, 25,28-30)

“Submit to one another in the fear of God.

Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

For the husband is head of the wife, as also Christ is head of the church; and He is the Savior of the body.

…….Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ also loved the church and gave Himself for her, …..So husbands ought to love their own wives as their own bodies; he who loves his wife loves himself.

For no one ever hated his own flesh, but nourishes and cherishes it, just as the Lord does the church.

For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones.“ (Ephesians 5:21-23, 25,28-30)

Most of the believers in the name of Jesus Christ, misunderstand the word ”submit”.

They think that submitting to one another means that one will control the other.

The man will give orders and the woman has to obey.

We do not like to submit because we do not like to be controlled.

We like the freedom to be able to live our lives how we choose.

Our culture also feeds us every day with this idea of living for self.

But when we read the whole passage we understand clearly the meaning of “submission”.

Submission is an act of love.

I submit to my husband because he loves me as Jesus loved the church.

Jesus loved us first.

And how He showed His love?

By giving Himself to us. It is the love of giving and sacrifice.

So the husband loves his wife by giving himself to her and she gives him the same kind of love by submitting to him to receive his love.

Jesus said that the sign of loving Him is obeying His word.

We obey His words because we love Him and trust His love to us.

We know and believe that what He asks us to do is for our good and benefit.

We submit to Jesus cause we do not doubt His love.

So the way our Lord views submission is through a heart of love.

When we read the epistle of St. James, chapter four, we know that we are called to submit to Christ.

When we proclaimed our faith in Christ, we said yes to surrender all to Him to transform us to His image & likeness in the Holy Spirit.

So submission is not about control, but it is about love.

Submission is an act of mutual love between a husband and his wife.

As when we surrender our lives to Jesus we gain an abundant life filled with His joy and peace, the same thing happens when a husband and wife submit to one another, they live in peace and joy of the Holy spirit.

Amen.
