We Must Not Give In To Angry Feelings And Justify Them (Mathew 5:21-24)

”let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

For consider Him who endured such hostility from sinners against Himself, lest you become weary and discouraged in your souls.” (Hebrews 12:1-4)

Jesus, our Lord and Savior, told us that all who will believe in His name, will be persecuted as He was persecuted.

He is confronting us with the reality that the world hates Him and so it will hates us.

Some of us are persecuted in their hometowns, others are looked down upon or made fun of because of their faith in Jesus.

What all of us is facing nowadays in any place of the world is not a surprising thing.

Jesus told us that we will face persecution for the sake of His name.

He said it plainly to us that If they persecuted Him, they will also persecute us.

If they kept His word, they will keep ours also. He said in the Gospel of St. John, chapter fifteen, “If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.

If you were of the world, the world would love its own.

Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.

Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’

If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.

If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.

But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.” (John 15:18-22)

So what should we all do in this situation?

St. Paul is simply telling us to endure such opposition and never get weary or lose heart, because we will be rewarded by being glorified with Him.

Rather than we be afraid of someone persecuting us or making fun of us or belittling us, we need to start being bold in sharing the Gospel.

Jesus knows what it feels like to be mistreated and hurt.

All what we have to do at that time of persecution is to turn to Him, and run to Him instead of running away from Him and blame Him of facing this pain.

When we run to Him He will comfort us, protect us.

This is His promise.

He knows exactly how we are feeling, and He wants to surround us with His love, peace, and His victory over all these evil deeds and trials.

Whenever we are faced with trials or persecutions or even hurtful and mean words and comments about our faith, we need to look to Jesus  and do similar as He did, be calm and peaceful.

By thinking of Him and focusing on Him during these times, we will not grow weary or lose heart and be glorified with Him.

Amen.
