Beware Of Evil Spirits (1Peter 5:8-11)

“Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour. 

Resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by your brotherhood in the world. 

But [f]may the God of all grace, who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after you have suffered a while,perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle you. 

To Him be the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen.” (1 Peter 5:8-11)

Evil spirits are fallen angels who fell in the rebellion and became corrupted by sin. 

They wage war with all the children of God who chose to receive Jesus Christ, the Son of God, in the Holy Spirit. 

They love Jesus as their Lord and Savior, and obey His commands. 

They reject sin and want to live holy as Jesus is holy. 

The reading of today, St. Paul warns us to watch out for evil spirits and we do not discount their power everyday. 

They can deceive us, tempt us to sin, and harm us spiritually, mentally, emotionally, and physically. 

They are the source of our struggle in this fallen world. 

Our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil. 

But we should not fear them. 

why? 

Because we have the power of Jesus who defeated them on the cross. 

We are more powerful in Jesus’ name. 

To be in the victory of Jesus over these spirits, we need to be fully in unity with our Lord. 

We have to be always in obedience to His word. 

May we all be true children of God, obeying His word to live a safe, godly, and holy life in the power of His name. 

Amen.
