Jesus’ Peace Will Guard Our Hearts (Philippians 4:6-8)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus. 

Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy, meditate on these things.” (Philippians 4:6-8)

St. Paul in this letter exhorts us to guard our minds and hearts. 

How? 

By the peace of God through Jesus Christ, which surpasses all understanding. 

Guarding our hearts is an intentional act of spiritual discipline. 

So when our will is united with the will of God we will be able by the power of the Holy Spirit to guard our thoughts and desires and be aligned with God’s will, His ways, and truth. 

To be aligned with God’s will does not only means to obey all His commandments but also avoid all the lustful worldly desires and reject it. 

We have to focus on Jesus asking the Holy Spirit to guide us and give us the power over the devil’s trials and temptations. 

St Paul is giving us the way to how to guard our minds and hearts and this is by not being anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let our requests be made known to God. 

Not only that but also by saying whatever is true and doing whatever is noble and pure. 

To love doing good to all people and to continuously meditate on the word of God. 

All these will help us guard our hearts and minds and feel the peace of Jesus that no one can take from us.
