Proper Behavior Supports Sound Doctrine (Titus 2:1-5)

“But as for you, speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine: that the older men be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, in patience; the older women likewise, that they be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things— that they admonish the young women to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, homemakers, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God may not be blasphemed.” (Titus 2:1-5)

The grace of Father God is that His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, has been incarnated and appeared to all the world, bringing salvation to all men.

Jesus came to our world to reveal to us the love of Father God. 

St. Paul, the apostle of Christ, always teaches us to be prepared for the second coming of Jesus in His glory to judge the living and the dead. 

Thus he writes in this letter we have just read, that we should deny ungodliness and worldly lusts, and live soberly, righteously, and godly in the present age, looking for the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ, who gave Himself for us, that He might redeem us from every lawless deed, and purify for Himself His own special people, who are zealous for good work. 

In this letter to Titus, apostle Paul is giving him and us, the believers in Jesus name, direction to how to speak the things which are proper for sound doctrine. 

He advises men to be sober, reverent, temperate, sound in faith, in love, and in patience. 

And also women to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, teacher of good things, and that to be good examples to younger women, and to admonish them to love their husbands and children. 

May we all men and women accept this teaching and apply it in our lives to live an honorable life worthy of the name of our God and Savior, Jesus Christ.
