Seek God In The Season Of Dryness (Psalm 63:1-7)

“O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land where there is no water.
So I have looked for You in the sanctuary, to see Your power and Your glory.
Because Your lovingkindness is better than life, my lips shall praise You.
Thus I will bless You while I live; I will lift up my hands in Your name.
My soul shall be satisfied as with marrow and fatness, and my mouth shall praise You with joyful lips.
When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches.
Because You have been my help, therefore in the shadow of Your wings I will rejoice.” (Psalm 63:1-7)

Many of us have gone into a season where we feel like our prayers are hitting the ceiling and we feel we are talking to ourselves.
We experienced that dry and hollow feeling when we cannot even read the word of God and the Gospel sits unopened even for weeks and we feel like it is an obligation.
The Psalmist expressed this feeling of dryness explicitly because he felt it too when he wrote this psalm in the wilderness while fleeing from his enemies.
But he did a very important thing that we all must do when we feel this dryness.
He quickly went to the Lord and prayed.
He proclaimed that his soul was thirsty and longing for Him saying: "My soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water."
So the Psalmist did not leave himself feeling thirsty for the Lord but quickly went to seek Him.
He did not deny the feeling of his spiritual dryness and admitted his longing to the times where he felt the presence of the Lord in his life.
He missed the feeling of having the Lord as his father, and remembers how beautiful were these days where he felt His peace and love.
We all must do like David, admit our dryness, and quickly go to our Lord asking His help in the Holy Spirit and to turn towards Him rather than continue going away from Him.
We must not submit ourselves to those feelings of dryness.
It is a trap from the devil, our enemy, which we have to resist.
St. James advises us in his epistle, chapter four, saying, ”Therefore submit to God.
Resist the devil and he will flee from you.
Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.” (James 4: 7-8)
We must quickly turn to the Lord and refresh our relationship with Him by praying more, reading His word, and remembering His faithfulness and love which we have experienced all the days of our lives.
We have to  do like David, the Psalmist, and use this season of dryness as a time to refresh.
We lift our hearts in prayer, to bless and praise the name of our Lord, Jesus Christ, and meditate on His word.
Amen.
