Jesus Set Us Free (Galatians 5:1-4)
“Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled again with a yoke of bondage.” (Galatians 5:1-4)
Apostle Paul is saying that Jesus came to our world to set us free.
The question now is, what did Jesus set us free from?
In the epistle to the Romans chapter six, St. Paul made it clear to us, saying, ”Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one’s slaves whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?
But God be thanked that though you were slaves of sin, yet you obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine to which you were delivered.
And having been set free from sin, you became slaves of righteousness.“ (Romans 6: 16-17)
So the answer to that question is, Jesus set us free from sin.
We have to know that every time we submit ourselves to sin, we are building a prison around ourselves.
Even if we might think we have everything covered or controlled, we do not.
We are never in control of sin but the truth is, it is controlling us.
This is why we must not become calloused to sin.
Sin is sin, no matter what sin it might be.
We might think that certain sins are more severe than others, but actually all sins are equal.
If we commit one sin, it is just as bad as committing all.
The truth is that every time we sin there will be consequences for our sins that will prevail in our lives.
Sin eats our hearts and the more we sin, the more our hearts get as hard as a stone.
So Apostle Paul is warning us to be away from sin as Jesus gave us the power in His name to rebuke sin and its temptation.
Not only to be away from sin, but also to stand firm, and do not let ourselves be burdened again by a yoke of slavery.
The freedom the Lord has given us is eternal, constant, and steadfast.
We must enter into the light and life of Jesus, instead of locking ourselves away in our prisons.
we must take hold of this freedom, turn away from sin, and bring glory to the Lord.
The good news of today is, no matter what we are being held as an enslaved persons today, we can give it over to Jesus.
He has already given us freedom; it is time to take it.
In Him we are free from any bondage the devil had bonded us with.
Jesus came to give us His life and love abundantly.
So let us praise Him, thank Him, and walk in obedience to His Word.
Amen.
