Today's Devotional

To Confess And Repent (1John 1: 7-9)

“But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 
If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (1John 1:7-9)

To confess our sins sometimes can be difficult because it challenges us to lay down ourselves and admit our shortcomings. 
We must humble ourselves and surrender ourselves to the work of the Holy Spirit. 
Jesus said that If anyone would come after Him, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow him. 
The devil never stops to tempt us each day, but it is our choice to obey the devil or obey our Lord and His warnings to us. 
Jesus said that the devil is a liar and those who obey him will be in the darkness. 
Jesus is the light and the life. Those who will choose to obey the devil’s temptation and disobey the Lord, will be separated from Him. 
That disobedient choice is a sin, which means a separation from the only source of life, Jesus Christ, our creator. 
Jesus came to restore us back to His bosom. 
He overcame sin and death on the cross and resurrected into heaven to release us from the devil’s bondages and be able to rise with Him up to heaven. 
Jesus doesn’t want us to wallow in our sins. 
Instead, He wants us to come with a repentant heart, turn from those sins, receive Him and the power of His Holy Spirit and walk in His righteousness which He gave us. 
St. John is telling us that the way to Jesus is open to us. 
Jesus wants us to leave our wrongs behind and follow in His perfect way and plans. 
If we repent He will cleanse us in the Holy Spirit and forgive us and come to cover us with His righteousness. 
Amen.
