Today's Prayer

A Prayer to Welcome a New Baby Home

Thank You Lord for having this new baby. 
The Psalmist said that the children are a heritage from the Lord, the fruit of the womb is a reward. 
Welcoming new life into my world is such a beautiful and humbling privilege for me. 
It is a blessing to have this child and she is a gift that I receive from Your hand. 
Please Lord, help me to shepherd, hold, and care for her as You did to me. 
I have never been more certain that life is a miraculous gift than when bearing witness to a new life entering this world. 
There is a sense of perfection, holiness, and sacredness of beginnings as Your body, Lord,  grows. 
As a parent, please Lord, help me to remember that sense of privilege I feel at the beginning, and the urgency that is laid on my heart to train my child in Your ways. 
Help me to remember all the time that children are a heritage from the Lord, a reward. 
Help me to remember that I am blessed to have my child, to love her, to pray for her, and to enjoy her. 
Even in the hardest moments shared, I know that You Lord, intends for family to be a blessing that brings us joy and support over a lifetime. 
As I embrace my baby, even during those challenging sleepless nights, remind me Lord and encourage me that my child is my inheritance. 
Lord, You asked me to pray, seek, and knock, and You promised me that You will answer me and You will empower me for every good work with Your Holy Spirit. 
Lord, I need Your Holy Spirit to make me alive and active more than anything else to journey well with my child. 
I need You Lord, to whisper patience into my heart when I feel exasperated. 
I need Your peace when I am so afraid of all that could go wrong for my kid in this world. 
Lord, I need Your comfort and grace when I feel I have fallen short as a parent. 
I need Your protection as I navigate this world with another precious life in tow. 
I need Your wisdom as I make decisions that range from sleep training ideas, schooling options, and then, one day, wedding arrangements. 
I need Your power Lord, to be with me through every crazy age and stage of this wild parenting ride. 
Give me all I need to love her well. 
Show me Your ways and teach me Your paths as I go on this journey of parenthood. 
In Your Almighty name, I pray. 
Amen.
