Jesus Is Our Ultimate Reward (Hebrews 12: 1-2)
"Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God." (Hebrews 12:1-2)
In these verses, St. Paul urges us to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus, and to know that our life’s difficulties are short-lived.
The final prize for sticking with Him, is much bigger than any worldly gain.
Jesus is our best example of patience and faith.
He suffered greatly for the happiness awaiting Him which is saving those who believe in His name and get united with Him.
If He could endure such intense hardships, we can find the power in Him to handle our less serious problems.
Focusing on this goal is an endless life with our Savior.
Let this top reward power our persistence and give us the bravery to continue when we get tired and want to quit.
Truthfully, the path of faith is not easy and simple, and there will be moments when we feel burdened, disheartened, and tempted to surrender.
But, we know the final result of this battle, our victory over sin and death in Jesus Christ.
He won the battle for us and gave us His overcoming power over all evil spirits.
We, the children of God, must learn to celebrate even tiny successes when facing a long battle.
These little wins are frequently missed, yet they are key to keeping us going and lifting our spirits.
Each slight step ahead in our race, shows Jesus’ kindness to us and our strength in Him.
So, each step is a win against temptation or despair should be enjoyed and noted.
We never undervalue the impact of recognizing our advancement because it is not our victory but it is Jesus’ victory in us.
We must See our small wins as big ones because it shows our faith in Jesus and our unity in Him.
This acknowledgment of victories over the devil’s temptations keeps us motivated and fights off feelings of complete failure.
We know that the devil feeds on our discouragement and hopelessness and he always wants us to feel crushed by our problems.
By enjoying our small wins over him, we actively fight the enemy's deceit.
We confirm our progress in our victory over him, build our self-belief, and remind ourselves that Jesus is in us, helping us conquer every challenge.
This active part in our spiritual journey is vital for keeping our faith to grow and get stronger.
Therefore, we accept to fight the devil with endurance and patience, relying on Jesus’ power in us, enjoying small wins, and staying focused on the final prize, which is everlasting life with Him.
But in this race we must always remember that we are not alone, and that Jesus is with us, He loves us, and His power is complete in our weakness.
Amen.
