The Holy Spirit Is Our Source Of Spiritual Wisdom (1 Corinthians 2: 10-15)
“But God has revealed them to us through His Spirit.
For the Spirit searches all things, yes, the deep things of God.
For what man knows the things of a man except the spirit of the man which is in him?
Even so no one knows the things of God except the Spirit of God.
Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the Spirit who is from God, that we might know the things that have been freely given to us by God.
These things we also speak, not in words which man’s wisdom teaches but which the Holy Spirit teaches, comparing spiritual things with spiritual.
But the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; nor can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.
But he who is spiritual judges all things, yet he himself is rightly judged by no one.” (1 Corinthians 2:10-15)
We, the believers in Jesus’ name, come to know Father God’s wisdom through the Holy Spirit.
For the Holy Spirit is the Spirit of God, who knows the things of Father God just as the spirit of man knows what is in man.
In this passage we just read, we can see St. Paul’s twofold classification of humanity.
We have a man who does not believe that Christ is Lord, and does not receive Him and of course not yet enlightened or regenerated.
For this kind of man, the divine things appear to him to be foolishness because he inquires into divine things by human and natural reasoning, rather than receiving them by faith in the Holy Spirit.
St. Paul said in chapter three of the same letter,“ Therefore I make known to you that no one can say that Jesus is Lord except by the Holy Spirit.” (1Corinthians 12:3)
So it is only in the Holy Spirit that we can grasp and understand the divine mysteries.
St. Paul calls that kind of man “carnal”.
This carnal man who, even while in church, has his mindset on earthly things, still want to satisfy personal wants and selfish desires.
As for the other kind of man who believes in Christ, united with Him, and abided in Him, is called “spiritual man.”
This man is filled by the Holy Spirit, and therefore, he is mature in his knowledge of Christ and full of spiritual wisdom and enlightenment.
Enlightenment from Father God in itself is beyond all words, and even beyond evaluation by other man.
Nevertheless, the Holy Spirit speaks His word, through these spiritual men, that truly reflects the unspeakable knowledge of faith.
We must know that our spiritual condition is mainly revealed by our thoughts, deeds, and our relationships with other people.
Our spiritual growth and our fellowship with our Father in heaven and His Son Jesus Christ, demand us living in the overcoming strength of the Holy Spirit, who brings unity to our Lord and Savior, and great victory over all kinds of evil spirits.
Amen.
