We Serve In the Newness Of The Spirit (Romans 7: 4-6)

“Therefore, my brethren, you also have become dead to the law through the body of Christ, that you may be married to another—to Him who was raised from the dead, that we should bear fruit to God. 
For when we were in the flesh, the sinful passions which were aroused by the law were at work in our members to bear fruit to death. 
But now we have been delivered from the law, having died to what we were held by, so that we should serve in the newness of the Spirit and not in the oldness of the letter.” (Romans7: 4-6)

St. Paul affirms in his letter to the Romans that justification, our ongoing communion with God, comes by faith in Christ, receiving Him in the Holy Spirit in us, and not by following the works of the law. 
When he uses the word ”flesh” he refers to the unredeemed man under the power of sin and death. 
In this condition, sinful passions are awakened when man faces the demands of the law. 
The law merely brings to light our bondage to sin, it does cause us to sin. 
On the other hand, we, the Christians, who are united with Christ, live in a new mode of existence by the power of the Holy Spirit. 
As we have been liberated from the ways of the flesh because of our unity with Christ, now we bear fruit to God. 
Amen.
