Freedom Of Sin Under Grace (Romans 6:11-14)

“Likewise you also, reckon yourselves to be dead indeed to sin, but alive to God in Christ Jesus our Lord. Therefore do not let sin reign in your mortal body, that you should obey it in its lusts. And do not present your members as instruments of unrighteousness to sin, but present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God. For sin shall not have dominion over you, for you are not under law but under grace.” (Romans 6:11-14)

The command of St. Paul to us to not let sin reign in our mortal bodies, proves that sin’s power over man is not absolute.
Rather, it is something we allow by our free will. 
Man’s will was the first aspect of human nature damaged through sin, and therefore, it is the first thing Christ healed. 
His healing allows us to make true choices against sin.
While sin continues to plague humanity, those who are united with Christ have power to overcome sin through their unity with Him in the Holy Spirit.  
Lusts refer to all the passions of the flesh and spirit that make demands on the will. 
In Christ a person can resist and defeat these lusts through righteous exercises of the will. 
Though God created our members good, we may use them to serve either of two rulers, sin or God. But we, the Christians, are no longer to sin as those who sinned during the period of the law. 
Those under the law did not have the power of God to reject sin. 
It is because of the overcoming power of Jesus which dwells in us, that we are able now to say, NO, to sin. 
The old law of Moses exhorted people to battle sin, but the grace of Father God, who is Jesus Christ,  gives us the power to battle sin and win. 
He did set us free from being slaves to sin, and made us slaves of righteousness. 
Father God does not want us to be slaves but to be His children. 
If previously we served sin well, now we are empowered to serve righteousness even more effectively. 
Amen.
