Love Is The First Commandment Of All (Mathew 22:35-40)
“Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying, “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him, “‘You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
This is the first and great commandment.
And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’
On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” (Mathew 22:35-40)
Jesus greatest commandment is Loving God above all and loving others as He loves us.
To love the Lord our God with all our hearts, souls, and minds means to submit and surrender ourselves and everything to Him.
Submission is not easy and many of us want to govern their own lives and this hinders their peace.
Truthfully, we aren’t in charge and know nothing compared to God.
Only our omnipotent Father has eternal wisdom.
True freedom comes when we humbly submit to Him and accept His will.
We place ourselves in the hands of the One who knows the end from the beginning.
To humble ourselves and give Him the authority over our lives.
We cannot do this unless we have a strong faith and trust in Him.
Jesus said that the prove of loving Him is our obedience to His commandments.
The second great commandment is to love others as He loves us.
We cannot love others unless we are full of Jesus’ love and life.
It is only by His grace and power, we can love others and show them the same grace we have received.
If we are not abiding in Jesus we cannot love our neighbors.
When we accept Jesus and receive Him in us through the Holy Spirit we can easily transfer this love to others.
Jesus also instructed us to Love our enemies and pray for those who persecute us, that we may be children of our Father in heaven.
The prove that we are the children of God is that we have His love in us and spreading it to all people around us even our enemies.
If Jesus is not in us and We are in Him, we cannot love and pray for our enemies.
Hatred is the fruit of the evil spirit.
Hating those who hurt us or oppose our beliefs is a strong temptation, which will never bring us closer to God.
On the other hand, loving others demonstrates God’s love for the world around us.
Amen.
