Whatever We Do, Do All In The Name Of Jesus (Colossians 3:15-17)

“And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called in one body; and be thankful.
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord.
And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”(Colossians 3:15-17)

St. Paul is telling us that whatever we do, do in the name of Christ.
We are not doing good things to please people or to get rewarded from them, but we do it in the name of Jesus and to Jesus.
He is also sharing with us the important truth that we need to give thanks to the Father through the Son, our Lord, Jesus Christ.
Whatever we do, whether in words or actions, we need to do it in the name of Jesus and give thanks to the Father.
This means we need to do everything in a manner worthy of Jesus Christ and to praise the Father through it.
Every good thing that we do is only because of the work of sanctification of the Holy Spirit in us.
We wouldn't be able to do good things without the Holy Spirit.
He is the source of every goodness in us.
He is the One who equips us with the strength to say no to sin and to follow after righteousness.
Once we start giving thanks to the Father through Jesus, we will be able to focus our hearts on Jesus as well as we will start being motivated to do the right thing.
Even when we think we have nothing to be thankful for, we can be thankful for the salvation plan Jesus did for us.
He gave us His overcoming power over sin and death.
Salvation is a gift from Jesus and it is not by anything that we have done.
Without Him confronting all the evil spirits on the cross, with His body, that is to say our body, and defeated them, we would not have been able to defeat all the temptations of the devil and overcome them.
He gave us His power over sin in the Holy Spirit.
Thanks to our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
Amen.
