If Anyone Suffers As A Christian, Let Him Not Be Ashamed (1Peter 4:12-16)
“Beloved, do not think it strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened to you; but rejoice to the extent that you partake of Christ’s sufferings, that when His glory is revealed, you may also be glad with exceeding joy.
If you are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are you, for the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you.
On their part He is blasphemed, but on your part He is glorified.
But let none of you suffer as a murderer, a thief, an evildoer, or as a busybody in other people’s matters.
Yet, but let him glorify God in this matter.” (1Peter 4:12-16)
We, the children of God, know that we are not from this world.
This world hates the true children of God.
We know that we will face trials, will be tested, challenged, and persecuted in this life.
Jesus told us in the Gospel of John, chapter fifteen, "If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also." (John 15:20)
So we are not supposed to be surprised when we face trials because Jesus told us that we will suffer in this world as He suffered.
But St. Pater is encouraging us, saying that when we face trials we must not be sad or fear anything but we have to rejoice because we are sharing with Christ His suffering, that when His glory is revealed, we may also be glad with exceeding joy.
Not only that, but also, when we are reproached for the name of Christ, blessed are we, why?
Because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon us.
What a grace and blessings we have when we suffer for the name of Jesus.
St. Peter continues to warn us in chapter five, to be sober and alert, because the devil, our enemy, walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
He asks us to resist him, steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same sufferings are experienced by our brotherhood in the world.
Then he prays for us to Father God who called us to His eternal glory by Christ Jesus, asking Him to bestow His grace on us and to perfect, establish, strengthen, and settle us. (1Peter 5:8-10)
So we all must be on guard and ready to face all the challenges and trials of the enemy with patience and Joy.
Amen.
