Our Battle With The Devil Starts In Our Minds (2Corinthians 10:1-6)
“Now I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.
But I beg you that when I am present I may not be bold with that confidence by which I intend to be bold against some, who think of us as if we walked according to the flesh.
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.”(2Corinthians 10:1-6.)
We are in a time of serious war with the devil our enemy.
He is not the enemy of the believers in Jesus Christ only, but he is the enemy of all humanity.
Jesus said that the devil came to steal, destroy and to slaughter us.
He is the liar and the father of lies.
He is so wicked and has different tactics to attack us, and the tool he uses to attack one of us is completely different than the other tool he attacks another one.
Nowadays we are living in a very serious war zone and peace is hard to find in it.
What many people fail to realize is that the number one battle that takes place in our lives is in our head.
The verses we just read tell us, for though we walk in the flesh, we are not waging war according to the flesh.
For the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh but have divine power to destroy strongholds.
We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God, and we must take every thought captive to obey Christ.
There are certain satanic strongholds that imprison us each day that we must be aware of.
The battles are taking place in our thoughts and the devil uses these vulnerability points to attack us each day.
So we must be aware of his wicked ways.
We don’t want the Devil as an ally.
He’s treacherous and will break us down with his lies.
We first must know that he will begin to attack us fiercely when we truly decide to submit our lives to Jesus and begin to give the Holy Spirit in us the upper hand and accept His purification process in us and we start our spiritual path with Jesus Christ.
There is nothing that the devil hates more than us building up our relationship with Jesus, our Lord and Savior, and growing in our faith.
On the beginning of any new spiritual journey, the devil will attempt to sabotage and distract us in an effort to keep us from growing into a full acceptance of Jesus in us and abiding in Him.
The second point that we must know about the devil’s scheme, is that he usually attacks us when we are in a weak position, both physically and emotionally.
There are some of us who will nurse their weaknesses and keep them, saying “I am a human and it is okay to be weak in this point.”
This way of thinking will never let the Holy Spirit work in us and set us free from these weaknesses and the devil will have us in his grasp and will keep us there, willingly.
The third point is that the devil will attack us when we are going through a period of extreme frustration.
During a spiritual attack, the enemy uses a variety of circumstances to repress the mind and bring great frustration.
When we are under siege, we may find ourselves feeling on edge, anxious or agitated.
In these moments, a simple conversation with our co-worker, or a friend can turn into an explosive argument and a simple thought in our head can take us down into a pit of negative emotions.
We may also find ourselves saying things that are out of character or not feeling quite like ourselves.
In moments such as these, it’s important that we center our focus on Jesus, rebuke the devil, and pray asking the Holy Spirit to come and release us from the devil’s grip of hatred, frustration, and fear.
The forth point that we must be aware of in our battle with the devil, is that he uses pain and hurt as an entrance for him to attack us.
Not only that, but he will also attempt to lure us to quick-fixes to our hurt and pain.
He wants us to believe he has all the answers to our problems that hurt us and not Jesus.
He causes the problem or the illness and tell us where is Jesus, why He did not fix the problem?
If we are having problems in our relationships, he will feed us bad words and thoughts about that person to break the relationship down even more.
If we are battling an illness or in physical pain, he will try to make us believe that God isn’t present and doesn’t care about what we are going through.
We must refuse these lies and stick to the words of Jesus in the Gospel, that He never tempts us but we are tempted by the devil and must go quickly to seek Jesus’ help.
In these moments, we must pray and take our thoughts captive to obey Christ’s words and commandment.
He told us to resist the devil and defeat his thoughts in His name.
And this is main and important thing in our battle with the devil, to guard any destructive thoughts that enter our mind.
We must be aware and know that the battle starts in our minds.
We must take our thoughts captive and obey Christ’s words and commandments.
Amen.
