Watch And Pray, Lest You Enter Into Temptation (Mathew 26:40-44)

“Then Jesus came to the disciples and found them sleeping, and said to Peter, “What! Could you not watch with Me one hour Watch and pray, lest you enter into temptation.
The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak.” Again, a second time, He went away and prayed, saying, “O My Father, if this cup cannot pass away from Me unless I drink it, Your will be done.” And He came and found them asleep again, for their eyes were heavy.
So He left them, went away again, and prayed the third time, saying the same words. “ (Mathew 26:40-44.)

Reading these verses, we see how Jesus was always taking time to be away from the people and his disciples and sit by Himself praying.
He is warning us to watch and pray lest we enter into temptation.
Why?
Because the devil, the tempter, wants to tempt us all the time.
He walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.
Our flesh is weak but when we sit before our Lord, He will strengthen our spirits with His life.
As children of God, giving ourselves time to sit before our Lord and God and pray every day is very important for our spiritual growth and maturity.
Freeing ourselves and our minds from any preoccupations or responsibilities and focusing on our lord, praying and praising His name, will make us hear His voice which leads our lives according to His will.
But when we try to do this everyday, we feel like there is something in the way.
We want to enter God’s presence, but we just cannot seem to push through.
Let me tell you that the main reason for this, is the devil.
He is working day and night to interfere with our worship.
He knows that sitting before our Lord to worship Him is one of the most important aspects of our walk with the Lord.
Worship is one of the most essential ways we connect with God, and that is why the devil always comes to entangle us with anything that makes us miss this precious time.
The devil knows that worship is the doorway into God’s presence, and when we are fully engaged in worship, it lifts our spirits beyond any situation we are experiencing.
It is the time when we talk with our Lord, repent, pray, and intercede.
Satan does not like this time because it is the time we rebuke him and defeat him in the name of Jesus.
It is the time we are filled with the overcoming power of Jesus over all the devil’s temptations.
Satan knows that if he can prevent us from worshiping, he can keep us from experiencing the fullness, peace, joy, strength, and healing that comes from God’s presence.
So we must resist all the devil’s oppositions in Jesus name and never submit to his temptations.
Jesus said we must resist the devil and he will flee.
We must rebuke him in the name of Jesus day and night.
Sitting before our Lord is the most precious time in our lives.
May we all seek to sit before the Lord of Lords and king of kings, to be filled with His life, love, and peace.
Amen.
