Give And It Will Be Given To You (Romans 15: 1-6)
“We then who are strong ought to bear with the scruples of the weak, and not to please ourselves.
Let each of us please his neighbor for his good, leading to edification.
For even Christ did not please Himself; but as it is written, “The reproaches of those who reproached You fell on Me.”
For whatever things were written before were written for our learning, that we through the patience and comfort of the Scriptures might have hope.
Now may the God of patience and comfort grant you to be like-minded toward one another, according to Christ Jesus, that you may with one mind and one mouth glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Romans 15:1-6.)
The most characteristic thing for God’s children in the midst of this evil world is, the love of God that fills their hearts.
Jesus said, they will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.
God’s love is not the same as the fake love that we have around us.
The love of the world is the love of taking, it is the love of mutual benefit.
When we love with the concept of this world we choose to love those who will meet with our expectations and fulfill our desires.
But God’s love is the love of giving.
This kind of love always makes us get outside our comfort zone, and yet, we feel very happy.
Why?
Because when we give and share the love we have from the Holy Spirit inside us, the Holy Spirit will pour and flow out into us like a stream of river.
Jesus loved us ad came to our world to save us.
He carried a cross He didn’t have to carry and He chose to, so we would be free from our sin and overcome the fear from death.
He literally carried our burdens.
Jesus said, “My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you.” (John 15:12.)
If we are to love each other as Christ loved us, it means carrying each other’s burdens.
Christ Jesus made it clear that the most important commandment was to love God and then our neighbor.
We are blessed when we give time or effort to carry others’ burden and relief them.
Love is not a command in the sense to be forced on us, but when we love God from all of our hearts, we automatically will be filled with His love that will pour out from us on all we have relationship with.
We’re not called to simply tolerate the burdens of others, but to lovingly desire to carry each other burden and share the love of God.
It isn’t a prideful carrying we take credit for, but an honor to stand in and take the time to love someone in honor of Christ, by whom we have the power to love others in His name.
When it comes to giving up things in order to love people, they are not only connected with our money but also our time, and material things, or our comfort.
When we carry each other’s burdens, we are fulfilling the law of Spirit, that is to say, Christ.
Everything we do is to bring glory and honor to Him.
Christ, living in us, produces every good thing.
Sometimes, the people in our lives need us to listen to them, hug them, and love them right where they are at.
But we must be aware that when we carry the burden and weakness of others and love them we must do it all in the name of Jesus and not to show off our strength or doing charity.
Also we must be assured that if we give up our time, money, and comfort, in the name of Jesus, He will provide and sustain us with His great Love.
Jesus Himself promises us and assures us in the Gospel of Luke, chapter six, saying, “Give, and it will be given to you: good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over will be put into your bosom.
For with the same measure that you use, it will be measured back to you.” (Luke 6:38.)
Amen.
