We Can Find Joy In Any Circumstances (James 1:2-8)

“My brethren, count it all joy when you fall into various trials, knowing that the testing of your faith produces patience.
But let patience have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking nothing.
If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.
But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind.
For let not that man suppose that he will receive anything from the Lord; he is a double-minded man, unstable in all his ways.” (James 1:2-8.)

Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit, the Spirit of God. We cannot have real joy from any worldly things or circumstances, but only from our Father who are in heaven.
And this is very obvious that when we feel joyful only when we’re enjoying good circumstances and this joy fades easily when we face any suffering or our circumstance changes.
It is one of the most challenging aspects of living in this fallen world is to find joy in the middle of suffering.
St. James is drawing our attention that this suffering should not let us be not joyful because it is a call for us to overcome this suffering, which is from the devil, and abide in Jesus’ Spirit of joy.
If we abide in Jesus, the Son of God, through His Holy Spirit we can live in joy in any type of circumstances.
St. James continues to encourage us saying that our suffering in this fallen world is not in vain.
When we suffer we should consider it pure joy, why?
because whenever we face trials of many kinds, we know that the testing of our faith produces patience.
And Patience is a fruit also of the Holy Spirit that we must receive from Him, which leads to our maturity in the Spirit and complete the work of the Holy Spirit in us.
So when the devil puts us in trial to test our faith, the Holy Spirit in us, uses it to strengthen our faith and confront this evil spirit with patience and overcome it.
When we face difficulties, we can trust that Jesus in us through His Holy Spirit, uses our suffering to produce spiritual growth and maturity in us.
We can find joy in knowing that our trials are temporary and that they are preparing us for an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
Being united with Jesus in times of suffering also helps us to remember that this life is not all there is, and that our current circumstances and difficulties are not the end of the story.
We have the assurance that Jesus is with us in every situation, no matter how bad or good it feels to us, and that He is using all of our experiences to accomplish good purpose in our lives, which is to be in His image and likeness.
Amen.
