We Must Lay Hold On Eternal Life (1Timothy 6:11-15)

“But you, O man of God, flee these things and pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, patience, gentleness. Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, to which you were also called and have confessed the good confession in the presence of many witnesses. I urge you in the sight of God who gives life to all things, and before Christ Jesus who witnessed the good confession before Pontius Pilate, that you keep this commandment without spot, blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ’s appearing, which He will manifest in His own time” (1Timothy 6:11-15).

We, the children of God, know that we are in a continuous war with our enemy, the devil.
The devil knows that the earnest expectation of the creation eagerly waits for the revealing of the sons of God.
Jesus, our Lord and Savior, confronted our enemy on the cross, and delivered the creation itself from his bondage of corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
The devil envies the children of God and wages a battle with them because he doesn’t want anybody to have the eternal life that Jesus offers.
He attacks all creation relentlessly and this makes living on this world very tough and we can be so worn down by the evil forces in this world that we feel like sometimes we are giving up.
But the truth is that Jesus gave us all His power and all the weapons to use for this spiritual warfare to fight him back and win the battle so easily.
Jesus did save us from him and gave us all His authority over him.
We are the ones that give the devil the chance to win by listening to his lies and get tempted by his temptations.
Jesus said to us that he is a lier and the father of lies but we still listen to his whispers and believe him.
Jesus told us that the devil is our enemy who came to slaughter and destroy us.
As soon as we give our ears and hearts to him,  we get under his influence and give him the chance and the way to attack us fiercely.
Jesus has not left us alone in this battle, He came to overcome all kinds of evil spirits for us and saved us.
If we are untied with Jesus in the Holy Spirit putting on the armor of God we will defeat him.
We have  to fight him back with assurance that we will defeat him because Jesus is in us.
We should not stay defenseless by listening to his lies and obeying his lustful desires that make us sin.
We can actively and effectively defeat him because Jesus did.
Our victory over him is settled and assured in Jesus Christ our savior.
We have the power that raised Christ from the dead inside of us.
Let’s exercise our authority as children of God and fight him back.
St. Paul taught us in his epistle to the Ephesians, chapter six, how to be prepared for this daily battle and to win with Jesus.
It’s called putting on and activating the armor of God.
Thank you Jesus for giving us Yourself and Your victory over our enemy.
Amen.
