We Must Forgive Others As God Forgives Us (Colossians 3:13-15)

“Therefore, as the elect of God, holy and beloved, put on tender mercies,
kindness, humility, meekness, long-suffering; bearing with one another,
and forgiving one another, if anyone has a complaint against another;
even as Christ forgave you, so you also must do.
But above all these things put on love, which is the bond of perfection.
And let the peace of God rule in your hearts, to which also you were called
in one body; and be thankful. ”
(Colossians 3:13-15.)

In the Lord’s prayer, Jesus taught us to ask Father God to forgive our sins
as we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.
Continuing the prayer to ask Father God to give us His power over
the devil’s temptations which lead us to sin and to set us free and deliver us
from his bondage of sin.

So forgiveness is God’s command to us.
He wants us to be like His incarnated Word and Son, Jesus’ Christ.
He came to our world, having a body like ours, to overcome for us
all the devil’s sinful lusts, desires, and temptations.
He gave us all His power and authority over sin in His precious name.
He also gave us His forgiveness of sins in His holy blood
which He shed on the cross.
So we must be like Him forgiving. When we look at the others’ offenses
and  insults to us, as they are defeated and used by the devil,
we will be able to have mercy on them and forgive them,
just as Father God has mercy on us and forgives all our trespasses.

Our battle is not with the people around us but it is with the devil our enemy.
He is the one behind every offense and insult that we are exposed to.
He uses others to hurt us.
So we have to fight him back by forgiving those who offend us
and take them out of his sinful grip and forgive them.
Not only forgive them but also pray and intercede for them
to be delivered from the grip of the devil and his bondage.
Amen.
