Trust That God’s Plan For You Is The Best (Acts 16: 6-10)
“Now when they had gone through Phrygia and the region of Galatia,
they were forbidden by the Holy Spirit to preach the word in Asia.
After they had come to Mysia, they tried to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit did not permit them.
So passing by Mysia, they came down to Troas.
And a vision appeared to Paul in the night.
A man of Macedonia stood and pleaded with him, saying, “Come over to Macedonia and help us.” Now after he had seen the vision, immediately we sought to go to Macedonia, concluding that
the Lord had called us to preach the gospel to them.”
(Acts 16: 6-10.)
Most of us have plans for the day or for our lives in general.
We feel secured and satisfied with what we have in mind for this plan.
But when circumstances oppose us or arrangements get changed and the plan did not go
as we wished, our reaction is to get upset, annoyed and frustrated.
When we read these verses in the book of Acts, we see that Apostle Paul and his followers
also had a plan to preach the Gospel in Asia, but the Holy Spirit forbid them to do so.
We can see clearly that the reaction of St. Paul and his people was so different than ours.
They were happy to be led by the Holy Spirit.
They were not confused or frustrated for changing their scheduled plan.
And this is the key of their success in the ministry of preaching the Gospel.
They were free and smooth in the hands of the Holy Spirit and in complete submission
to His guidance.
They follow the direction of the Holy Spirit with confidence that this docility is for goodness for their mission.
We read in verse ten that they all immediately obeyed the voice and the vision of the Holy Spirit
to their leader, St. Paul.
No one questioned St. Paul’s docility to the Holy Spirit and they believed his words
and they immediately sailed with him in the new plan with one spirit and with joy.
This does not mean that we do not plan for ministry or the things of our daily lives.
But the lesson we learn today from these verses is, that we surrender our plans
to the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
We pray for it with complete submission to the will of the Holy Spirit for execution.
We must also be very sensitive to hear His voice and not to assume in advance
that what we are doing is the right way to implement the plan or the right timing.
May we all submit our plans and all our lives to the guidance of the Holy Spirit with joy,
knowing with confidence that He is good and does everything for our good.
Amen.
