Today's Devotional
We Are Members In One Body (1Thessalonians 5:11.)
“Therefore comfort each other and edify one another, just as you also are doing.
And we urge you, brethren, to recognize those who labor among you, and are over you in the Lord and admonish you, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake. Be at peace among yourselves.” (1Thessalonians 5:11.)
Many times we can recall a situation that handed us much more than we could handle or lasted much longer than we thought we could endure.
And sometimes this struggle we were facing kept on and leaving us barely hanging on and on the edge of breaking.
The problem is that on those times we keep on focusing on the bad situation and the more we focus the more we feel trapped and imprisoned in it.
And maybe in the middle of the struggle, we prayed too, but prayed with fear and doubt that Jesus can change the situation.
We most of the time keep our struggle between us and God, but St. Paul is drawing our attention in these verses, to a very important thing, which is the we are members of one body, the body of Christ.
Yes, It is right to go straight to Jesus with what is causing concern, desperation, and grief.
He is the only One who has power and love to lift us and fill us in ways no one can.
But there is something else that we need to remember that Jesus is the vine and we are the branches.
We are connected to each other in Him.
He created us to be members in His body.
He uses us to bless each other.
So in our warfare we need each other for help and encouragement.
He uses us to comfort, edify, encourage and intercede for each other.
Jesus uses each one of us for the sake of each other.
He can encourage us through our sharing and connection with each other.
Jesus makes people among His body, that is to say among us, to be our guides and teachers who admonish us, pray and intercede for us. St. Paul is urging us to recognize those who labor among us, and are over us in the Lord and admonish us, and to esteem them very highly in love for their work’s sake.
Thank You Lord for not keeping us alone, but You created us as Your body, who has many members.
Thank You that we all, as members of Your body, can encourage, comfort and intercede for one another.
Thank You Lord for when one of us in trouble, we find all the body, Your body, be one in mind and spirit.
Amen.
