Be Strong In The Lord (Ephesians 6:10-17)

“My brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers,
against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness
in the heavenly places.
Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day,
and having done all, to stand.
Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.
(Ephesians 6:10-17.)

The devil wages a constant war with us, the believers in Jesus Christ.
He is using every situation or every person around us to attack us.
He uses his wicked tools all the time trying to let us feel that God is far away from us
and He is not near.
He entangles us with constant problems and pressures to make us deny the truth.
Today, we, the believers in Christ, must rise up against all the enemy’s attacks
by putting all our trust in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ who overcame the evil spirits
on the cross and rose from the dead.

St. Paul is advising us to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.
He is asking us to put on the whole armor of God. Why?
In order that we may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
We trust that He will defend us.
We believe that we have received His overcoming power over the devil in the Holy Spirit.
We proclaim our faith in the face of the enemy and surrender our thoughts
and all our lives to the Lord’s ways and will.
We ignore the accuser’s attacks and turn away from all that he is doing in our lives
and focus on Jesus’ almighty and overcoming power to defeat all his plans against us.

St. Paul gave us two main things we must do in our war with our enemy,
first, to gird our waist with truth, and second, to put on the breastplate of righteousness.
If we do these two actions we guarantee our victory over our enemy, the devil.
Amen.
