Today's Devotional

Let Us Rest in Jesus’ Peace (John 14:27-28)

“Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. 
Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. 
You have heard Me say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ 
If you loved Me, you would rejoice because I said, ‘I am going to the Father,’ 
for My Father is greater than I.” 
(John 14:27-28.)

Most of us have experienced the occurrences of unexpected events, from financial strains, 
restless nights, frustrated friends, or simply feeling overwhelmed by the demands of everyday life.
These moments cause us struggling to find peace. 
But in these verses Jesus Himself tells us to rest in Him and have peace. Why? 
Because He has overcome the world. 
This is a very powerful promise to all who accepted and received Jesus in the Holy Spirit. 

Peace is not a feeling that we obtain when we follow Jesus, 
but it is a choice to not accept the devil’s fearful thoughts and to trust in Jesus’ 
overcoming power over all the fearful thoughts. 
We must realize that when we fear we cannot change our situations, but in fact we put ourselves under the authority of the devil and let him succeed in fulfilling his catastrophic and evil threats to happen to us. 
So we, the children of God, must not doubt Jesus’ promise but instead trust in Him and seek to receive His overcoming power over the world’s lustful desires, and rest in His peace. 
We must pray asking Jesus to replace the fearful and defeating thoughts of the devil with His overcoming and peaceful thoughts.
May we all find Jesus’ rest and peace that surpasses all understanding in our days to come. 
Amen.
