Do Not Pick The People You Choose To Love (Mathew 5:44-48)

“But I say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you,
do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you
and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven;
for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good,
and sends rain on the just and on the unjust.
For if you love those who love you, what reward have you?
Do not even the tax collectors do the same?
And if you greet your brethren only, what do you do more than others?
Do not even the tax collectors do so?
Therefore you shall be perfect, just as your Father in heaven is perfect.”
(Mathew 5:44-48.)

God’s first and greatest commandment to us is to love the Lord our God with all our hearts,
all our souls, and with all our minds.
Then His second commandment is to love our neighbors as ourselves.
God is love and He is the source of love.
We cannot love without having the source of love in us,
that is to say, we have Him in us.
That is why God commanded us first to love Him,
meaning to accept and receive Him in the Holy Spirit.
We have to be filled with His love to be able to love others with His love.

Jesus said that he who believes in Him, out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.
This living water is His life and love.
It is this kind of love that equips us to reach outside of ourselves
to love someone else and share with him that holy love.
Sometimes we see this commandment is very easy to obey
until we face a neighbor or a friend who treats us badly
or we think that he is not on our social and intellectual level, etc.
That is why Jesus said, if you love those who love you, what reward have you?

Jesus loves us all, so who are we to think we get to choose
who should receive Jesus’ love we have to give?
The love we have is a gift from God that He gave us to share with others and live in peace.
It is not ours but it is His love.
The devil imitates God’s love and he deceives us to love those who are like us,
who serve us, or who we benefit from their relationship.
This is not the true, holy, and genuine love we receive from our Father God.

We must discern what kind of love we have.
God’s love is unconditional.
We are commanded to love all even our enemies.
So all we have to do is to submit ourselves to God
and He will let the Holy Spirit in us to pour His love on all people around us.
Amen.
