Put God First (Mathew 22:34-38.)

“But when the Pharisees heard that He had silenced the Sadducees, they gathered together.
Then one of them, a lawyer, asked Him a question, testing Him, and saying,
“Teacher, which is the great commandment in the law?”
Jesus said to him,
“‘You shall love the LORD your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind.’
This is the first and great commandment.”
(Mathew 22”34-38.)

The teachers of the law want to test Jesus asking Him what should be the priority in our lives. Jesus answered them, that we should put Father God first in our lives.
To make God first means to focus on him throughout the day and give him most of our time.
This does not mean that we do not go to work, or take care of our children,
and spend all the time in the church and the ministry.
But we can determine our priorities based on where the treasure of our heart is?
Is God’s life is the goal we want to seek and be filled with?
We must know that our connection with God is different from any other connection we have on earth.

Our connection and relationship with God is spiritual.
It is through the Holy Spirit.
So we can be at work and fully connected with Father God. How?
By having our hearts filled with His love, our minds filled with His good thoughts,
our emotions controlled with His righteous feelings.

We are focusing on Him by seeking to glorify Him with all that we do.
St. Paul told us in his second epistle to the Corinthians,
”So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
(2Corinthians 10:31.)

Everything we do in life is done to honor Him.
If God is kept in mind with every choice we make, and act we do,
then we are making Him the first no matter what responsibility we fulfill.

Jesus gave us the key to how to make God first.
How?
To love Him with all our hearts, with all our souls, and with all our minds.
How do we know that we love Him?
Jesus said that those who love God are those who obey His commands.
So obeying Father God is the sign of loving Him.
If we want to keep God first in our lives, we must omit the things we do
or the relationships we have that do not honor Him.

We, the children of God, must take into account the results of putting God first.
Not only do we bring honor and fulfill the greatest commandment,
but we will be the recipients of His perfect peace which transcends all circumstances.
