Today's Devotional.

We Are Salt and Light Of The World (Mathew 5:13-16)

“You are the salt of the earth; but if the salt loses its flavor, how shall it be seasoned?
It is then good for nothing but to be thrown out and trampled underfoot by men.
You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden.
Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lamp stand,
and it gives light to all who are in the house.
Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works
and glorify your Father in heaven.”
(Mathew 5:13-16.)

We all are called to be witnesses of Jesus, our Lord and Savior.
To be salt and light of the world.
To be effective in our witness, we should remember that
the theme of our witness is Jesus Christ.
An important part of this theme is the fact that Jesus Christ is the only way
to salvation, not just one of many ways.
We are called to carry His light to the whole world.

When we have a transformed life, we hold fast to what is true, and reject
the sinful ways of the world, the people around us will notice it.
They will see Him shining in us in the darkness and ugliness of the world.
Though some people may reject us, reject His light in us,
there will be some who are drawn in, curious to know why we are different.
They will see our new lives in Christ which is filled with His love, peace and compassion.
We give an account of His love and forgiveness, both verbally and in the way we live our lives.

So the best way to tell others about Christ and to make them desire to have Jesus in their own lives is to live a consistent loving, Christ-centered life in front of them,
that is to say, they see us filled with the fruits of the Spirit.
If we are good friends, good listeners, attentive to the needs of those around us,
full of joy, peace, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control,
then people will be likely to listen to us when we tell them about Christ
because they will see that there is something genuinely different‪ ‬about us.

The eternal life of Jesus which we accepted and dwelled in us in the Holy Spirit
is the source of the salt and light in us.
He gave us Himself, that is to say His eternal life, light and love,
and then commanded us to go and preach His name and make disciples.

May we all abide in Jesus’ life and fulfill His command
and be witnesses to His light to the whole world.
Amen.
