Today's Prayer.

A Prayer For Control Of The Tongue
 
Dear Jesus,

I come to You now to confess that my tongue often gets ahead of my mind and heart. 
I am quick to speak and I repent of the many thoughtless things I have spoken. 
I apologize for the words I have spoken in anger or in gossip. 

Please help me to examine my heart because you said that an evil man 
out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil, 
for out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. 
You also said not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; 
but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man. 

Lord, I do not want to be an evil person and hurt people 
and kill them emotionally with my words. 
I do not want to be a gossiper and a backbiter 
cause You said that those will not enter Your heaven.

Lord, I repent and promise to resist all these evil behaviors. 
Please Lord, help me to have a tongue which bears witness to Your love 
and faithfulness and to produce words of joy 
and encouragement to people around me. 
I want my tongue to be a tool for You to use to preach Your good news 
to the whole world and not to produce words that make people curse Your name. 
I want to change and be a person full of loving words and be full of the fruits of Your Spirit. 
Help me to be overflowing with love, joy, peace, kindness and gentleness. 
Help me abide instead of strive, living peacefully and joyfully as heir to Your kingdom. 
In Your precious name, I pray. 
Amen.
