For Where Our Treasure Is There Our Heart Will Be (Mathew 6:19-21)

“Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal; but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.
For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.”(Mathew 6:19-21.)

The heart is the center of man’s will.
What we have in our hearts is what we think about and seek to fulfill.
Jesus commanded us to love the LORD our God with all our hearts because where our treasure is, there our heart will be also.
So any idea we think about comes first from our hearts.
In the Gospel of Luke, chapter six, we read,”A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart brings forth evil.
For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks.” (Luke 6:45.)
The words we speak and the deeds we do show what is hidden in our hearts either evil thoughts or good ones.
Jesus has made a radical change when He considered sin not only by committing the physical act but the act of the heart, mind, and the eye are just as sinful.
Sin starts by an idea thrown by the devil to our hearts.
In the Gospel of John, chapter thirteen, we read that the devil put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus.
So the sinful act of betrayal started first in Judas’ heart.
Jesus went deeply to eradicate the root of sin saying,“You have heard that it was said to those of old, ‘You shall not commit adultery.’ But I say to you that whoever looks at a woman to lust for her has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”(Mathew 5:227-28.)
Jesus explained clearly and said repeatedly that out of the heart of men proceeds either evil or good thoughts.
In the Gospel of Mark chapter seven, He said to His disciples, “Are you thus without understanding also?
Do you not perceive that whatever enters a man from outside cannot defile him, because it does not enter his heart but his stomach, and is eliminated, thus purifying all foods?” And He said, “What comes out of a man, that defiles a man.
For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts.”(Mark 7:18-21.)
We, the Christians, should know that the condition of the heart is more important than outward appearances of sanctified living.
We must examine our hearts everyday and repent of every evil thought, and ask in prayer for the Holy Spirit to cleanse us from all defilement, deceit, and hypocrisy.
May we all seek to have pure hearts to please our Lord and savior and strife to be in His image and likeness.
Amen.
