The World Hates Us For Jesus Name’s Sake(John 15:18-21)
“If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.
If you were of the world, the world would love its own.
Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
Remember the word that I said to you, ‘A servant is not greater than his master.’
If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you.
If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
But all these things they will do to you for My name’s sake, because they do not know Him
who sent Me.”
(John 15:18-21.)
These days the main concern for most of the believers, old and young, is the Social Media.
They wake up in the morning before even drinking a cup of coffee, they hold the phone to see what is happening on Facebook.
It became very easy to commit a sin by uttering hurtful or insulting words and comments.
And of course it’s so easy to get caught up in gaining others ”likes” and “shares” and dwell too much on being accepted and applauded by people rather than speaking God’s truth.
We, the children of God, our goal is not to be well-liked and praised by the world, but rather, to be true children of God and be in the image and likeness of our Lord, Jesus Christ.
We must not do what pleases people, but we must proclaim the true name of the savior of the whole world.
What a serious mistake we do posting everyday on facebook our own lives and pictures to brag about our families, our wealth, or even our praise and worship to God.
All what we are seeking is to show people that we are pious, devout, or even to let them hear how beautiful our voice is in praise.
St. Paul advices us to not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of our mind, that we may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.
Jesus Himself said in the Gospel of Mathew, chapter six,
“Take heed that you do not do your charitable deeds before men, to be seen by them.
Otherwise you have no reward from your Father in heaven.
Therefore, when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men.
Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.”
(Mathew 6:1-2.)
As Jesus said we do not belong to the world because He has chosen us out of the world, and that is why the world hates us.
True believers all over the world are persecuted and rejected for Jesus’ name sake.
They rejected Him and so rejected us too.
We must not seek men’s glory but Jesus’.
We do not want to loose God’s reward and glory with the fleeting glory of men.
Jesus cautions today are for our good and to help us keep our feet on the path that leads to life. Ignoring His guidance and commands opens up to being misled.
His words today encourages us to be like Him and do not fear the world and its persecution.
He Himself is rejected by the world and we share with Him this rejection, but we will also share with Him, His glory.
May we all not ignore todays verses, and not seek people’s acceptance and praise, but seek to please Jesus’ heart and be in His image and likeness.
To do His will and use the Social Media only to preach His salvation plan to the whole world.
Amen.
