Today's Devotional

Whoever Serves Jesus must follow Him (John 12: 24-26)

“Very truly I tell you, unless a kernel of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. 
But if it dies, it produces many seeds. 
Anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. 
My Father will honor the one who serves me.” 
(John 12:24-26.)

Jesus’ words here were His announcement of His death on the cross. 
By His death on the cross and resurrection, He will save many people from the grip of sin and the fear from death and bring them into His heavenly kingdom. 
Christ has given us, we His  children,  a command to love one another as He loved us. 
He gave us the example of His love and obedience to the Father so that He became obedient to the point of death, even the death of the cross. 

He said the world will know that we are His children and disciples if we have this kind of love to each other, the love of giving. 
Giving is not meant only material giving but giving anything that is precious in our eyes. 
We can only love this divine love to each other by uniting ourselves with Jesus, the giver of eternal life and love. 
And this is what Jesus meant by saying anyone who loves their life will lose it, while anyone who hates their life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 
When we are filled with Jesus life, we die for our self-love, and flesh desires, and can say like 
St. Paul, in his epistle to the Galatians chapter two, 

“I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me. “ (Galatians 2:20.)
