The Lust Of The Flesh Is Not Of God But Is Of The World

“For all that is in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world.
And the world is passing away, and the lust of it; but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
(1John 2: 16-17.)

Lust is an intense, overpowering, and uncontrollable desire or appetite for something.
We live in a world that is full of lust, whether it is lust for money, power, or pleasure.
Satan is the prince of this world and so he drives it by his pride, power, and pleasure.
Lust presents a real problem to everyone of us. But we realized by experience that the things we most often lust after, don’t bring the satisfaction they promise.
This is often why some of the most miserable people, are those who have pursued their lusts and gotten them.
They have obtained what the world says will make them whole, complete, and fulfilled, and yet they still find themselves empty and wanting.
The word lust is always stuck to our minds, it is sexual lust.
However, lust is not just sexual, but it can be a lust for power, greed, food, or any number of things.
It overtakes us to the point where we feel we must have that thing, no matter what the cost is.
They are not good because they most often appeal to our fleshly appetites. Apostle John is telling us that the lust of the flesh is not of God but of the world.
And because it is a fleshly desire it does not satisfy the underlying desire. Usually, once we get what you lusted after, we despise it. It does not subside when we get what we want, it only pushes us to want more because there is no real satisfaction in what we have received.
And that’s why we feel we are worse off than before.
It is a wicked, evil, and deceptive temptation of the devil.
When people become consumed with lust, they become blind to the consequences and they only think about the moment and never pay attention to the moment after.
It is a very dangerous sin, that we must pay attention to in our lives.
So we, the children of God, must resist all the temptations of the devil.
The Gospel says resist the devil, and it will flee away.
To get rid of the sin of lust, we must remove all things that triggers lusts, so we need to watch what we are feeding our eyes, ears, and our minds with. We must create distance between us and the temptation.
St. Paul in his epistle to the Galatians told us the right way to get rid of spirit of lust, and that is, by walking in the Spirit.
We need to confront him with the overcoming power of Jesus’ name in the Holy Spirit.
The more yielded we are to Him, the more control we will have over the potential lusts that want to pop up in our lives.
Any sin starts with a simple idea, so we need to quickly erase the idea, that tempts us to lust, before it spawn by the work of sin.
May we all purify our minds and hearts from any lustful ideas.
May we not yield to any of the evil spirits that leads to the sin of lust.
May we love God’s ways and be always thankful for all His satisfying provisions.
Amen.
