God Disciplines His True Children (Hebrews 12:6-11)

“I lift up my eyes to the mountains. Where does my help come from? My help comes from the LORD, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip, and he who watches over you will not slumber. Indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD watches over you, the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and for evermore.” (Psalm 121:1-8.)

The verses we just read remind everyone of us who is anxious or depressed that the Lord watches over us in the Holy Spirit. Our Lord Jesus Christ said He will not leave us orphans and He sent His Holy Spirit to dwell in us. He is our Helper, protector, and comforter.

When we believe in Jesus Christ, receive Him, and abide in Him, He dwells in us in the Holy Spirit. We become united with Him. The question we need to ask ourselves now is, how we abide in Jesus? Jesus said he who loves me is the one who obeys my command. So when we obey Jesus’ command this obedience makes us united with Him and abiding in Him.

When we obey Jesus’ words, it is the way to avoid sin that He warned us to be away from to be saved. Sin is the instrument that the devil, our enemy, uses to separate us from our Lord and savior.

We are given several promises from the Lord Himself in the Gospel. He tells us that when we focus on Him, obey His word, we will be united with Him and will find help. He does not ever take His eyes off of us. He is our keeper; our safest place. He keeps the harsh conditions of this world from scorching us. He watches with perfect care and intention from morning till night. He shields us from evil. The schemes of the enemy have no place where His hands are holding us.

When we find ourselves in a difficult situation, we must be assured that in Jesus we have a way out in His perfect time. We need to trust His way forward and His way out of trials. Most of all, we see that God is willing and able to do all good things through every facet of our life.

Thank You Jesus for loving us and giving us Your peace, love and eternal life. Amen.
