Be Wise and Watch How You Live (Ephesians 5:15-19)

“Be very careful, then, how you live, not as unwise but as wise, making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit.” (Ephesians 5:15-19.)

Many of us spend most of their time on social media. Unfortunately, our phones became an idol that we cannot live without it. The first thing we do when we wake up is holding our phones to see the news. Now, the question we must ask ourselves is, how much time are we spending on social media a day? How much time are we worrying about our future?

Unfortunately, we do not spend most of our time with our Lord. We are unwise and waste our time. Apostle Paul is calling us to be wise and not waste our time because the days are evil. All the world now is corrupted and is under the authority of the devil. But we, the children of God, are under the authority of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We must not do as the world does. We must not place anything in our lives above our Lord.

He created us with a purpose and according to His will. Our aim should be to fulfill the purpose of God for our lives. That is all we should be concerned about. If anything in the world we place first before Jesus, it becomes an idol like fame, and money. If we spend most of our time on social media, or even good things like family or work, can become idols in our lives.

All this can also become a waste of time when we do not give an equivalent and sufficient time to sit before our Lord and hear His voice and meditate on His word. Every day is a special day that we must spend time with Jesus and see how we fulfill His purpose of our lives.

None of us are promised forever on this earth, therefore, we need to be wise and not be conformed to the world, nevertheless, focus more on Jesus to receive His eternal life. We must glorify Jesus with our time and not waste it. Even the plainest day we can turn it into a beautiful day in the presence of Jesus in the Holy Spirit.

We all must choose to make the most of every opportunity and live every day for our Lord. Every day Jesus has a plan for our lives, so we have to seize the moment. Amen.
