Joy Is The Fruit Of The Holy Spirit (John 15:9-11)

“As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love. If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love. “These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full.” (John 15:9-11.)

There is a distinction between joy and happiness.

Joy is the fruit of the Holy Spirit.

It is a profound state of contentment that we receive from the indwelling of Jesus Christ in us through the Holy Spirit.

It is an inward and internal attribute of our mind and soul that stems from our faith in Father God and His Son, Jesus Christ.

When we are in Christ and He is in us, we receive the fruit of Joy from the Holy Spirit which no one or any circumstance can take it away from us.

It is related to and rooted in our spiritual fulfillment status and our relationship with Father God.

So it is independent of our external circumstances.

The spirit of joy provides us with strength and resilience even in difficult times.

It sustains us through trials.

Joy is selfless, that is to say, it is not only for ourselves but for others.

For example we experience joy when others been awarded or honored.

While happiness depends on our external circumstances.

It is a temporary emotional feeling that we feel according to our circumstance.

It can be achieved externally, that is to say, we can do things and actions that give us a temporary feeling of happiness.

For example, if we buy new clothes, or a new car, or travel to a good place, or receive an expensive gift, or achieve an award or honor, we feel happy.

These actions give us a feeling of happiness outwardly but inwardly we do not feel any joy.

They are external and superficial and can end in an instance.

Happiness is also related to our feeling of pleasure, the pleasure of our flesh.

But on the contrary, we feel joyful when we give not take, it is more of a sacrifice.

May we all experience the fruit of Jesus’ joy and may it remains in us, and that our joy may be full.

Amen.
