Cast Your Anxiety on Jesus (1Peter 5:6-7)
“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time. Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.” (1 Peter 5:6-7)
Anxiety is the spirit of the devil. He is the spirit of worry, fear, and anxiety.
It starts with the nagging voice of the devil who whispers doubts, fears, and scary thoughts into our ears, until these thoughts take possession of us and lead our actions and in this case they become the cause of mental illness.
Anxiety in its simplest form, is that feeling of unease, worry, or fear that can range from mild to severe.
It’s a heavy burden and sometimes feels impossible to shake.
Unfortunately, anxiety is a genuine problem for numerous faithful people, due to the difficulties of living in a scary, corrupted, and confusing world.
But the truth that Jesus Himself told us about is, that the devil is a liar and the father of lies.
He frequently tells falsehoods, warping reality and blurring our understanding of truth.
We, the Christians, should be immune to fear and anxiety because we have the word of God in the Gospel which possess a strong defense against all the deceptions of the devil.
The Gospel offers facts that can demolish the falsehoods of worry and guide us toward serenity and liberty.
An Anxious person might feel that he is unimportant, or his troubles are too slight for Jesus’ notice or too massive for His help.
We begin believing we are isolated in our battles, that God is far away or unconcerned.
Saint Peter is telling us to cast all our anxiety on Jesus and He will heal us.
Jesus Himself asked us to lay our burden on Him and He will take care of it.
His promise is that He will never forsake us.
He deeply cares about our suffering, our dread, and our worries.
What do we need to do to receive Jesus’ healing to our anxiety?
First, we need to humble ourselves under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift us up in due time.
Second, know that anxiety is an evil spirit that we need to reject and rebuke in the name of Jesus and never accept thoughts that lead to it.
Third, to never doubt that Jesus is our Savior who loves us and wants to give us His life, the eternal life and give it abundantly.
Amen.
