The Difference Between The Holy Spirit’s Voice & The Devil’s (2 Timothy 1:7-9)
“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me His prisoner, but share with me in the sufferings for the gospel according to the power of God, who has saved us and called us with a holy calling, not according to our works, but according to His own purpose and grace which was given to us in Christ Jesus before time began.” (2 Timothy 1:7-9.)
The devil, our enemy, always bombard our minds with evil thoughts, making us doubt Jesus' goodness and His ability in us to live victorious lives.
He throws thoughts that condemn us, cause us fear, or make us feel unworthy, insignificant, or unloved.
Jesus told us that the devil is a liar and the father of lies.
He also told us to not accept and tolerate his lies but resist them in the power of His name and he will flee.
Sometimes, we do certain things that offended the holiness and goodness of Jesus, and we were completely oblivious until we are convicted by the voice of the Holy Spirit in us.
When the Holy Spirit warns us that we are sinning, He does it gently and peacefully and we feel encouraged to confess quickly and have the power to not sin again.
It is different than what the devil does to us.
He tempts us to sin and when we sin he points on our sins and fills us with the sense of guilt and debilitating thoughts like, we are sinners and we will surely fail to overcome this sin, or Jesus has given up on us etc,.
Now we know the difference between the Holy Spirit’s discernment and warning and the defeating voice of the devil that makes us just give up and not resist his sinful spirit.
When the Holy Spirit is warning us or giving us discernment about sin, there is peace and confidence that accompanies His leading, and that assures us our victory over sin in the power of Jesus’ name.
To the contrary, when the devil’s voice leave us with feelings of discouragement, defeat, or shame, we know that is not the loving voice of our Savior, Defender, and Advocate, Jesus Christ.
We, the children of God, should never forget that we can do the impossible in the almighty name of Jesus.
Amen.
