Without Jesus We Cannot Withstand In The Evil Day (Ephesians 6:13-18)

“Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.

Stand therefore, having girded your waist with truth, having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and having shod your feet with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith with which you will be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God; praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, being watchful to this end with all perseverance and supplication for all the saints” (Ephesians 6:13-18)

St. Paul is telling us a very true and important fact that we must not forget, which is, without Jesus we cannot withstand in the evil day.

Without being united with Christ and abiding in this unity we cannot overcome the devil our enemy.

In Him only we can overcome the spiritual battle that the devil wages against us.

He is also telling us how to be united with Christ in the Holy Spirit.

First, we have to abide to the truth.

What is the truth?

Jesus said I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.

So to abide in the Truth means, to abide in the unity with Jesus. Second, we put on the breastplate of righteousness.

What is the breastplate of righteousness?

When we abide in Jesus and He dwells in us we will be righteous as He is righteous.

In Jesus we will be filled with His peace that surpasses all understanding.

We will not fear anything because He is our shield.

Above all of this we must have faith that can move mountains.

A strong faith that makes us stand firm confronting all trials with victory in the name of Jesus.

A faith that will make us able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked one.

While fighting against the devil we must remember that Jesus came to save us from the devil’s schemes and plans and to defeat him.

We must focus on Jesus’ salvation plan and take this helmet of salvation and not focus on the devil’s evil ways or his temptations.

Reading the word of God in the Gospel daily will be the sword of the Holy Spirit which will help us fight our battle with boldness and be filled with faith and hope that we will win our war victoriously. We must also pray with supplications and perseverance day and night that we can get the help of the Holy Spirit to make us sober and alert all the time to discern the devilish schemes of our enemy.

Amen.
