Rest In The Lord’s Promise To Give Us His Peace (Philippians 4:6-7)

“Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:6-7)

Every time I read these verses specially at night before bed time, I feel that I am filled with Jesus’ peace and I lie down and have a deep sleep.

I experience the peace of Father God who guards my heart and mind through Jesus Christ.

This makes me ask myself why I and many believers like me feel anxious the moment we hear bad news or face any trials?

Why we do not cling to the truth we read in the Gospel that Jesus will never forsake us and He is there for us whenever we ask Him to come to solve our problems?

Why we easily can say and repeat these verses when we teach others the word of God, but in reality we feel very anxious and scared when we face any trial?

The truth is that we depend on our earthly human wisdom, our human knowledge and capabilities more than our confidence in our Lord’s almighty power and ability.

We say we believe that Jesus can do miracles but when it comes to our situation we think that miracle is impossible.

We find that Our trust is not in Jesus our Lord, but in science, in technology or in our human relationships and network we trust.

But unfortunately all these things we trust in, will fail us and will lead us to more stress which can foster a multitude of sicknesses and challenges.

We all must say like the Psalmist in psalm four, verse eight, “In peace I will lie down and sleep, for you alone, Lord, make me dwell in safety.”

Because of this truth we all must unclench our grip on all our fears and worries and remind ourselves that Jesus is all powerful to change our situations to our good.

He is the only One who can do the impossible.

We all must rest in His peace and shift our energy from striving to trusting.

Jesus Himself promised to give us His peace and asked us to cast our cares on Him.

And in these verses we just read He invites us to present our requests to Him and trust that He will guard our hearts and minds.

He wants us to seek His peace and release our troubles into His powerful and at the same time loving hands.

He said in the Gospel of Mathew, chapter eleven, “Come to Me all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.”

Rest is what Jesus promised to give us, not because we are good or perfect, but because He is full of love and mercy and we are His beloved children.

We all must experience Jesus’ peace that surpasses all understanding.

It is an invitation to all of us who believe in His almighty name.

Amen.
