Jesus Came To Heal Us From The Devil’s Oppression (Mark 5:1-8, 15)

“And when He had come out of the boat, immediately there met Him out of the tombs a man with an unclean spirit, who had his dwelling among the tombs; and no one could bind him, not even with chains, because he had often been bound with shackles and chains.

And the chains had been pulled apart by him, and the shackles broken in pieces; neither could anyone tame him.

And always, night and day, he was in the mountains and in the tombs, crying out and cutting himself with stones.

When he saw Jesus from afar, he ran and worshiped Him.

And he cried out with a loud voice and said, “What have I to do with You, Jesus, Son of the Most High God?

I implore You by God that You do not torment me.”

For He said to him, “Come out of the man, unclean spirit! ……..

”Then they came to Jesus, and saw the one who had been demon-possessed and had the legion, sitting and clothed and in his right mind.” (Mark 5:1-8, 15)

This is a story of a man possessed by demons, living in the tombs, screaming night and day, and breaking chains that others tried to bind him with.

Everyone in the town had given up on him.

This man was so miserable and tried to harm himself.

Then Jesus came and ordered with power and authority the demons to leave and they left.

Suddenly the man was calm and people found him clothed and in his right mind.

This story shows us that Jesus is able to calm any storm in our life.

He is our almighty Lord.

He is sovereign over darkness and He delivers people from the possession of unclean spirits.

He can utter one word and circumstances change.

This story reminds us that Jesus is a good Lord who came to heal and deliver us from all unclean spirits.

He is the same yesterday, today, and forever.

We should not fear anything if He dwells in us.

In His almighty name we can conquer all the evil spirits that fight with us.

Now we have this opportunity to unite with Him and have Him dwell in us.

Something else that can draw our attention in this story.

When the man begged to follow Jesus, Jesus answered him “Go home to your friends and tell them how much the Lord has done for you” (Mark 5:19)

Jesus not only healed the man, but He also gave him a mission.

He let him go and preach His name.

The same thing we must do today.

Jesus does miracles in our lives everyday.

We must go and tell people what did Jesus do in our lives.

How He changed us and healed us spiritually and physically.

We should not be teachers but preachers.

This is how we proclaim the name of Jesus to the whole world.

And just like with this demon possessed man, sometimes the most broken people become the boldest preachers.

Amen.
