Humility Cures Us From Arrogance (1 Corinthians 4:6-7)

“Now these things, brethren, I have figuratively transferred to myself and Apollos for your sakes, that you may learn in us not to think beyond what is written, that none of you may be puffed up on behalf of one against the other. 

For who makes you differ from another? 

And what do you have that you did not receive? 

Now if you did indeed receive it, why do you boast as if you had not received it?” (1 Corinthians 4:6-7)

Pride is disobedience to God’s most important command to love Him above all else, and love our neighbors as ourselves. 

To be selfish and think only of ourselves and how to please our desires. 

Humility is the antidote of pride. 

Our faithful Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, has a goal toward us, which is to sanctify our hearts and discipline us in the Holy Spirit, to be transformed to be in His image and likeness. 

When we believe in Christ and receive Him in the Holy Spirit, we get united with Him and this will let the Holy Spirit in us be able to do His process of sanctifying and purifying us to make us holy as Jesus is Holy. 

We begin to see the fruits of the Spirit in us. 

Humility is one of the fruits of the Spirit which drives out pride from our souls and make us selfless. 

It purifies our selfish intensions and attitudes and be able to receive Jesus’ sacrificial love in us. 

Jesus exemplifies humility, teaching that "whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted" (Matthew 23:12)

Memorizing these verses about pride as we seek to cultivate a spirit of humility, acknowledging our need for God and remaining teachable and open to His guidance. 

St. Paul in his letter to the Galatians, chapter six, says, “May I never boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Galatians 6:4)

Paul credited his integrity to Christ, boasting in a clear, Christ-led conscience. 

We can boast about what Father God, through Christ and the indwelling of the Holy Spirit, is doing through us with what He put in and activated in His time according to His will. 

And then we can say as Apostle Paul In his epistle to the Romans, chapter fifteen, saying, ”Therefore I have reason to glory in Christ Jesus in the things which pertain to God.” (Romans 15:17)

When we are full of Jesus’ humility we will be able to boast on the day of Christ that we do not run or labor in vain. 

Legitimate and godly boasting has nothing to do with ourselves.

We must be aware when we have certain signs like, fear, ingratitude, entitlement, hypocrisy, people pleasing, and rebellion that there is something wrong that we have swallowed from the devil’s evil spirits.  

All these signs indicate that we have swallowed the evil spirit of pride. 

We must not ignore these signs and quickly go to Jesus and repent and be cleansed by His precious blood. 

We can recognize pride by staying connected to Christ. 

Through prayer and reading the Gospel, the Holy Spirit will alert and convict us to the chains of sin in our lives, and walk us through the steps of sanctification to breaks us free. 

But we have to have inner ears to hear His voice, and be obedient to follow His lead.
