God Chooses The Foolish To Put To Shame The Wise (1Corithians 1:26-31)
“For you see your calling, brethren, that not many wise according to the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called.
But God has chosen the foolish things of the world to put to shame the wise, and God has chosen the weak things of the world to put to shame the things which are mighty; and the base things of the world and the things which are despised God has chosen, and the things which are not, to bring to nothing the things that are, that no flesh should glory in His presence.
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness and sanctification and redemption— that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the LORD.” (1Corithians 1:26-31)
The devil is the enemy of the children of God.
He always whispers into our ears and throws lies into our minds.
When we believe him we feel fearful and be filled with anxiety.
His voice can debilitate and hinder us from hearing Jesus’ calling for us.
So listening to the devil’s whisper’s is not wise because they are not words of truth.
He fills us with anxiety which comes in a whirlwind of thoughts in which one fear leads to another especially when we feel that God is calling us to do a task.
When we accept his lies not only can we doubt God’s choice, but we can also think that someone else would be better suited for Him to use.
His lies tell us that we are not good enough to cary out the task.
Being good enough is not what Jesus wants from us.
When He gives us an opportunity to serve Him, He is not looking at whether we are qualified or not.
Why?
Because we serve with the power of Jesus in us not ours.
He is the One who will tell us what to do or say.
Our lord does not choose people for tasks the same way as the world does.
The reading of today says that Jesus chooses the foolish to shame those people who have the wisdom of the world.
And He chooses things that are powerless to shame those who think they are powerful.
We being rooted in fear and worry can keep us from living in faith.
The Lord can use whomever He chooses to accomplish His will.
We, the children of God, must learn to tune out all the lies of the devil and instead listen to the voice of the Holy Spirit.
In the Holy Spirit we can fight the devil’s voice and his twisted words of fear.
In Jesus’ Holy Spirit we can surrender to Him and obey His command and His call anytime and anywhere.
Amen.
