We Must Pray For One Another (2Thessalonians 3:1-5)

“As for other matters, brothers and sisters, pray for us that the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored, just as it was with you. 

And pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people, for not everyone has faith.

But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.

We have confidence in the Lord that you are doing and will continue to do the things we command.

May the Lord direct your hearts into God’s love and Christ’s perseverance.” (2Thessalonians 3:1-5)

St. Paul is calling us, the body of Christ, to pray for one another.

He reminds us of how important it is to not only pray, but to pray unceasingly for one another.

Jesus said in the Gospel of Mathew, chapter eighteen, “Truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.

For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.” (Mathew 18:19-20)

St. Paul in his epistle to the Ephesians, chapter four, emphasized that we, the body of Christ, must make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

And how we keep this bond of unity?

By praying for each other day and night.

There is one body and one Spirit, just as we were called to one hope, one Lord, one faith, one baptism.

And he continues to say in the same epistle, chapter five, “be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. 

Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ephesians 5:19-20)

So when we pray for one another we will be filled with the Holy Spirit and we will sing from our hearts to the Lord.

Not only that, but also Jesus gave us a great promise, and that is, if we pray together with one mind and one spirit with faith, He will answer all our prayers and give us whatever we ask for.

What a great promise that encourages us to pray together and pray for one another in the Spirit.

St. Paul also mentioned two important issues that we must pray for. 

First, pray for the message of the Lord may spread rapidly and be honored. Second, to pray that we may be delivered from wicked and evil people.

May we all, the body of Christ, pray for one another continually and with faith to obtain all Jesus’ promises for us.

Amen.
