Quiet Your Soul Before the Lord (Psalm 131:1-3)

“LORD, my heart is not haughty, Nor my eyes lofty.

Neither do I concern myself with great matters, Nor with things too profound for me.

Surely I have calmed and quieted my soul, Like a weaned child with his mother; Like a weaned child is my soul within me.

O Israel, hope in the LORD From this time forth and forever.” (Psalm 131:1-3)

The devil is the prince of this world.

That is why it is so corrupted and full of many loud voices of temptations.

From the moment we wake up, we are busy with our phones from text messages, news, lustful promotions, notifications, and emails.

The to-do lists, the thoughts, the pressure to show up well in every role, it can all get loud.

The Psalmist draws our attention that we must stop all this and place ourselves where we are simply held.

To calm and quiet our souls like a weaned child with his mother.

The weaned child just rests secured, close, and content because He is sure without doubt that His mother will never leave him and still caring for him without even asking for the care.

We have to be in peace and rest in the bosom of our Lord.

To be in the Lord’s bosom, our souls are no longer anxious, grasping, or striving, trying to control.

In Him we do not have to be perfect cause He knows us well as He is our creator.

We have to calm ourselves and choose to let go of the noise of the world and choose to trust in God’s love and care.

To rest in Him in a childlike way.

Amen.
