Put On The New Nature (Ephesians 4:20-27)

“That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about Christ and were taught in him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus.

You were taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness.

Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.

“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry, and do not give the devil a foothold.“ (Ephesians 4:20-27)

Apostle Paul is urging us, we the believers, to turn away from our old ways and attitudes of life and to embrace the new nature that we have been offered by Jesus in the Holy Spirit.

The new nature is not just a new version of who we used to be, but it is a new creation designed to be in the image and likeness of Christ.

After believing in Jesus’ name and receiving Him in us through the work of sanctification of the Holy Spirit in us, we have a new divinely nature not the sinful human nature we used to have.

We are not the old ones anymore.

That means we have new choices to make, new responses, and reactions to what we face around us.

New behaviors, new minds, new perspectives, and new way of thinking full of holiness, righteousness, and wisdom.

Now we can sin no more and can reject all temptation of the devil.

Living in this corrupted and chaotic world will not affect our decisions anymore and will not has a way of pulling us back into fear and frustration.

Jesus is calling us to choose His way and to trust in Him

In Him we have eternal life, love, peace, and joy.

In His grace, we can be transformed, and be in His image and likeness.

Amen.
